travel tale: helsinki, finland

the double staircase, oodi library, helsinki, finland  oodi opened in december 2018 and has since become a major attraction, locals and tourists alike. an airy, light and open structure, showcasing finnish architecture and high-tech in one cool package. design by ala architects.  the words in the staircase are an installation by the artist  otto karvonen ,   “Dedication  ” collected through a public campaign where anyone could suggest who the library should be dedicated to. a reminder that libraries belongs to everyone regardless of people’s background, age, wealth or any other factor. The library aims for basic human rights, such as the  right to access information and freedom of speech , to apply equally to everyone. The words painted in the public staircase of Oodi were chosen by a panel assembled by the artist.  a few examples:  strangers, introverts, sports fans,uncles, cutie-pies, the blind, pixies…The double staircase, Oodi Library, Helsinki, Finland
